Over our many years of friendship with de Zutter, (since 1985) we have imported no fewer than 220 birds directly from this world class loft. The ultimate acquisitions however came at the time of his retirement from professional racing in 2010 when we were offered the choice of his entire breeding and race colony on an exclusive basis.

To be set free and to choose whatever you wanted in a loft of that stature in Belgium was an experience and opportunity of a lifetime and you can be assured that no pennies were spared in that selection process with no fewer than 80 top breeders and racers being selected. (The cream of the colony)

This family has simply outperformed any other strains which we may have tried in the past and our loft is therefore now simply dominated by this all-purpose family of birds which over the years have become “THE BENN GENERATION”. They are a fast, honest and extremely volatile family and when motivated they perform out of turn without needing excessive training.

We all know that quality pigeons are the quickest road to success and I have no doubt that this inbred family of birds can enrich any loft. Remember that no one can promise you more than pedigree and health; and we guarantee you both.

During 1988, I had the pleasure of visiting Belgium on business. I had negotiated a large deal with a machine supplier in Aalst and as a token of appreciation, they offered me “The Freedom of Town”. Instead, all I required was to meet the best Pigeon Fancier in the area.

Two phone calls later and I had a dinner date with a certain Willem De Zutter lined up for that evening. I was invited to arrive after 7pm, as that was the time his eldest daughter Patricia would be available to act as interpreter – De Zutter could speak no English.

Our friendship grew as more and visits to Belgium were ma de and De Zutter, in between these visits, was now learning English.

In 1991, I made my first purchase of De Zutter pigeons. I bought a Direct Son of the “Wondere Dunky” and a Full Sister to another Top Pigeon “De Gulden”.

In 1992, my wife and I visited the De Zutter’s and I selected another 20 Top Birds for myself.

My racing performance was now starting to take on new dimensions and I realized that these birds were superior to any others which I had tried over the years.

During 1994, I selected some fantastic pigeons which included a Full Sister to the Famous “Wondere Dunky” and a pair of the Wonder Couple “De Gulden” and “Czarin”.

A Direct Daughter of “Wondere Dunky” was also included in that parcel, which has really produced the goods for me as well.

In 1995 I introduced another 42 birds directly from De Zutter and have since then introduced birds every year from his best.

Since introducing these birds, my racing has become a pleasure and since 1993, I have never been out of the Top 5 or 6 of our Union Averages, having won the Overall Averages in 2000.

I have, over the years, created an exact replica of these fabulous birds and my Stud is known as the Undisputed Home of the Great De Zutter Pigeons in South Africa.

For as long as I race and excel with them and as long as I have Fanciers reporting success with them, I will carry on the traditions of breeding these wonderful birds.

However, after more than 30 years of selective breeding with the de Zutter’s, I am now battling to find new stock among them that are not related for racing. Having tested a few new strains, I have invested seriously in new stock that I believe will compliment and even strengthen the existing family.
